Igor: METAL HAMMER MAGAZINE /NEWS-#1/1989 KRUIZ ,the first Russian heavy metal band to have an album released in the West ,have recorded a recent show in Munich for a live video to promote their first single ., as yet ,the choice of single is undecided. KRUIZ were supported by another Soviet band Shah, who, like KRUIZ, recorded their first album in Munich`s Red line studio. The record was produced by KRUIZ singer Valeri Gaina, but as yet the band have not found a record deal. RAW MAGAZINE /33 ROUND UP -#1/1989 KRUIZ « KRUIZ» (WEA 243 869-1) Preparing to nudge through the Iron Curtain and into the hearts of Western Trash fans everywhere , KRUIZ are a battering ram of raw power. Firing on all cylinders ,they huff and puff through nine compositions that range from the promising to the totally mundane ..but never blow the house down. Back in the USSR (sic), guitarist/vocalist Valeri Gaina, bassist Feodor Wassiliev and drummer Sergey Efimov have become household names during their four-year domination of the first album (KRUIZ-1, it sold around eight million on a state-owned label!)to almost Metallica-esque ferocity. But two things will hold KRUIZ back. The Russian Ministry Of Culture has been quoted as saying «the lyrics are not good», and whilst they were referring to the violent subject matter of songs like `In flames!` and `Avenger`, the lyrics themselves (penned by manager Olga Chaiko) are hamfisted to the point of hilarity. Similarly, Gaina`s vocalising is so bad that he should be given a one-way ticket to Siberia. Well intended, but ultimately a bit of a let-down. DAVE LING WILLY –SOUNDS MAGAZINE MARCH 18th `1989 « TOP RUSSIAN TRASH BAND PLAY BRITAN» KRUIZ , the first Soviet metal band to sign a western deal, are coming to the UK In mid-April. The top Soviet trash metal band have, according to WEA, an unrivalled live reputation at home, where they continually play to sell-out audiences at 10,000 so at venues. The group`s debut western release last year of the album `KRUIZ` ,has yet to be released in SU, as the state run record industry is in the midst of reorganisation because of attempts to go into privatisation. However, an earlier album has apparently sold over ten million copies through Russia`s existing, one and only record label,Melodiya. They appear at London`s Astoria Theatre on April 12.
